OBH-15
With modern amplifiers expected
to cater for so many new devices, the Phono capability has
frequently been one of the features to disappear. Creek Audio
has always been aware of the benefits of vinyl that
is why the company continues to provide a number of Phono
stage options.
The most recent addition to the Creek range
is the OBH-15, combining moving magnet and moving coil Phono
pre-amplifiers, into one diminutive chassis. Seriously impressive
and offering audiophile performance, the new OBH-15 will augment
any system

OBH-8/9
To optimise the match with specific cartridges there are two
separate products, OBH-8 for moving magnet and OBH-9 for moving
coil. Creek engineers have designed the OBH phono circuitry
to use discrete transistors, instead of more usual integrated
circuits. This provides the flexibility to use circuit topology
more normally found in high-end equipment.
A single-ended, Class A gain
stage with passive RIAA equalisation and zero negative feedback
achieves tube-like performance while maintaining low noise
and current consumption. The single-ended OBH gain stage is
designed in such a way that it can produce high gain and linearity,
without requiring negative feedback to achieve low distortion.
OBH
1
The OBH-1 is a simple 24 Volt 3 Watt plug-in the wall power
supply. Although, it does have a proper bridge rectifier and
1000 uF smoothing capacitor, it is not powerful enough for
some OBH applications and doesn't regulate the voltage.

OBH
2
The OBH-2 is a 24 Volt 12 Watt regulated power supply, that
can sit on the floor or a desk top. It contains a bigger transformer
and uses a fully short circuit and over temperature protected
voltage regulator. The ripple current has been completely
eliminated from this supply, so it is very suitable for use
with OBH components that amplify, like the phono or headphone
amplifiers.

The dB Systems Cartridge
Alignment Protractor
Here's one of the only phono cartridge alignment tools that
A) does an accurate, repeatable job every time, B) is remarkably
simple to learn and use, and C) will last forever. Designed
for standard, pivoting tonearms (as opposed to linear trackers)
the dB Protrac (as we fondly refer to it) uses the tried and
true dual alignment points that minimize tracking distortion
over the arc of tonearm travel across the LP.
The precisely printed alignment grid allows
for easy comparison with various angles of the cartridge body,
and the two stylus placement dots make the task of pin-point
accuracy a simple one.
The dB Systems Protrac comes with complete
instructions as well as a sturdy leather carrying case to
protect it.

Grado [back
to top]

Our new Grado Phono Preamp, model PH-1, represents
the most successful solution to one of the most complex technical
challenges in the field of audio that Grado Labs has ever
tackled. It can be compared to the undertaking of designing
our highly acclaimed phono cartridges, headphones and our
world renowned RA-1 headphone amplifier over the past several
years. Our design goals were for a truly superb sounding phono
preamp to work equally well with both low and high output
cartridges with negligible noise. We wanted a phono preamp
with ultra wide band pass, high overload, virtually perfect
RIAA amplitude and phase coherency, and very low output impedance.
This was the challenge set forth! This we have accomplished!
We realized immediately that a challenge like
this was not going to be met by using either of the time-honored
methods of passive or active equalization circuits. The relative
advantages and disadvantages of these old methods are very
well known: the passive preamp approach is characterized by
problems of first stage headroom and second stage noise. This
is due to the 40dB high frequency insertion-loss of the passive
network itself. Phono stage gain is frequency dependent with
the result of too little feedback at the low end and too much
at the high end. Of course, both extremes are sonically non-optimum
and unacceptable.
The more commonly used active equalization stage
provides solutions to the classic passive circuit problems,
but it also comes with a whole new set of its own problems.
These difficulties arise out of the subtle ramifications of
the classic negative feedback theory. The RIAA characteristic
requires that the amplifier's closed-loop gain needs to change
by a hundred to one (40dB) over the entire audio range. This
means too little feedback-closure at low frequencies and too
much at high frequencies. Too little causes inadequate suppression
of simple distortions, and too much causes the generation
of complex distortions (high-order).
The new Grado phono preamp circuit design now
has all of the advantages of the old methods, yet none of
its antiquated disadvantages! The challenge was met! The processing
problem has been split into two separate parts: a forward
propagating signal current and a back propagating error voltage.
We have indeed eliminated all of the past methods. Our new
phono equalization technique is a derivative of the principals
that we used in our highly regarded RA-1 headphone amplifier.
In this design, feedback closure ratio does not change with
frequency, but the total output gain does. Virtually all latter
stage noise disappears! The output impedance is very low,
with the EQ stage opened-loop and the closed-loop gain being
the same. The best of both worlds!
What is so significant about these new innovations
is the fact that the technical superiority claims absolutely
correlate to an unprecedented improvement in openness, greater
depth of field and increased definition to the sound of each
musical instrument. The PH-1 offers a true freedom from past
sonic problems along with Grado's usual warm, smooth, full
bodied, non-fatiguing and rich sound qualities that everyone
has embraced.
If your turntable is driven with a Grado
cartridge then you deserve to go the final step with the new
PH-1 phono preamp.
Reference Series

RD-1
The RS-1 is the Masterpiece of the Grado collection, the Top
Of The Range product which oozes class both in looks and sound.
Featuring handcrafted Mahongany earpieces made using an intricate
curing process, Grado has been able to optimize the tonal
quality. The RS1 uses dynamic transducers in an open-air configuration,
the cups being open-backed. The result is a smooth, coherent
sound with detailed dynamics. Frequency response ranges from
12-30 kHz and the drivers are matched to 0.05dB. Weighing
9oz, the headphones are an example of the wonder of mother
nature with a gorgeous, honey-colored look.

RS-2
The newest edition to the Grado family, the RS2 is the little
brother of the RS1. The characteristics of the RS2 remain
the same as it's distinguished big brother, with the hand
crafted mahogany, but there is a smaller wooden air chamber.
Although a miniature version of the RS1, they still maintain
an overal sound that is pure Grado, warm harmonic color, full
bodied vocals, excellent dynamics and ultra smooth top end.
These truly are audiophiles dream.
Prestige Series

SR-325
The Top of the Range Prestige Headphone.
Incorporates all of the design features of the lesser models,
combined with UHPLC wire in both the voice coil and connecting
cord. Non-resonant Aluminium alloy is used in the make up
of the metal driver housings. Grado also embarked on a complex
treatment in order to increase the materials porosity. This
ensures that the earphone chamber has no "ringing"
which may obscure detail or add coloration. The resulting
Headphone combines clean open highs, well defined mid range
and vocal bass.

SR-225
Features are the same as the SR125 but, this Headphone has
an increased air flow by 50% which is achieved through an
improved rear metal screen and closer matched drivers. The
result is an enlarged soundstage achieved from closer driver
tolerances, while the improved rear screen frees the headphone
from colorations.

SR-125
Grado's ability to combine lightness with extreme rigidity
and internal damping has been put to good use on the SR125.
Based on the same design as the SR80, the SR125 features an
improved diaphragm and voice coil design and UHPLC (Ultra-high
purity, long crystal) copper voice coil wire. The Diaphragms
are put through a special 'de-stressing' process in order
to enhance inner detail. An improved headband spring provides
even greater comfort allowing the listener to relax and enjoy
the fine tonal spread and balance. Bass, midrange and treble
are all more open.

SR-80
Built on the same features as the SR60, but utilizes a 4 conductor
connecting cable and larger ear cushions, the result of which
gives a more open stage. The SR80 provides an improved bass
resonance, which enhances the overall detail. John Grado says
he strove for the best sounding phones for the money, and
with the glowing reviews the SR80's have received, who can
argue.

SR-60
The SR60 has gained "LEGENDARY" status. The SR60
has received rave reviews from around the world and is the
most commonly recommended headphone
on the market today. The SR60 was awarded STEREOPHILE "PRODUCT
OF THE YEAR" in two categories, "The Accessory of
the Year" and the prestigious "Budget Component
of Year".

Sleuth
The SIGNAL SLEUTH brings with it a whole new world of FM-stereo
enjoyment. Whether it be Bach, rock, or current affairs, the
SLEUTH will e x p a n d your world of FM-stereo entertainment,
bringing you more FM stations, more clearly.

ST-2
ST-2 FM Antenna. A Vertical, Omnidirectional FM Antenna receives
distant FM stations from all directions!
A more powerful FM Antenna than any single element
dipole antenna, the ST-2 vertical is probably one of the best
things ever to happen to FM listeners in urban and fringe
reception areas alike.
Concentrating its reception "focus"
only on the horizontal plane, the ST-2 is capable of getting
more signal to your FM tuner with less "flutter"
and "fading."
The ST-2 is also less susceptible to "multipath
interference," due to its unique vertical polarization.
Right from its PH17-7 stainless steel whip through
the gold-plated coil coupling to the stainless-steel encased,
precision-wound loading coil, the ST-2 is built tough. Yet
it passes the most fragile of FM signals to your FM tuner's
circuitry with the kind of strength sometimes found only with
much larger, multi-element antennas.
Being a 1/2 wave design and not requiring a
"ground plane" or counterpoise," it is equally
at home mounted on a mast, a balcony, hanging in the window
or from a tree. The ST-2 offers greatly enhanced FM tuning
performance,and signal strength.
The ST-2 comes to you ready to install.
It is 54 inches in length, and furnished with a stainless
steel "L" mounting bracket for ease of installation
both in and outdoors.

SR 100
The Silver Ribbon is both unique and attractive. The functional,
bright-metal elements may be adjusted by simply pulling upward
on the center adjustment knob. This provides a precisely-tuned
element at the proper impedance for each receivable FM or
UHF HDTV signal on the band, thereby maximizing reception.
The Silver Ribbon is easily rotated in position
to provide the best orientation for maximum signal pickup
from the tuned FM or HDTV station.
Indoor reception presents its own unique "multi
path" problems due to metal used in building construction.
Similarly, furniture and even people within the room can affect
reception. The Silver Ribbon helps avoid that problem by allowing
the user to "focus" the antenna on either the main
or a strong, reflected signal.
Up to now, indoor reception has been left to
the wonders of costly "box" and "wing"
type antennas. Now there is an effective alternative--one
that can provide maximum reception at a very reasonable cost.
If an indoor FM or HDTV antenna is a must, so
is the Silver Ribbon.

MD10 FM
Yagi High Gain Antenna. Highly directional to remove multi-path
problems. Tuned freq. range 88.1-107.9 -12.0dB of gain to
FM signal. $250.

MD6 FM
The MD 6 FM was designed for those desiring the reception
characteristics of the MD 10 FM in a smaller package. Sized
to fit in most attics.

HW-17
It is not uncommon for the serious audiophile to have an investment
in quality records far in excess of his sound reproduction
equipment. This investment demands the best in constant care
and maintenance, and the HW-17 record cleaning machine is
the answer.
The HW-17 automatically applies either distilled
water or 50% diluted alcohol solution by way of a built-in
liquid pump. An eight ounce liquid reservoir is provided.
Push-button operation automatically washes a record to the
very bottom of the grooves, and does so faster and with less
effort than any other record cleaning machine available today.
The HW-17's built-in liquid pump does not allow
fluid to come into contact with the record label. The system
is fully enclosed, and all points of contact are velvet treated
to protect the LP's delicate vinyl surfaces.
Featuring an 18 RPM high-torque motor that allows
deep cleaning without strain, the HW-17's powerful, integral
vacuum system ensures quick, deep solution removal, as well
as the removal of old, built-up residue, and prevents further
accumulation of foreign matter.
The HW-17 cleans the oldest, dirtest records
thoroughly, providing a pristinely clean, dry, static-free
record that sounds better than new. Ideal for audiophiles,
record archives, radio stations, audio retailers, and used
record stores.

HW-16.5
The HW-16.5 is VPI's most affordable record cleaning machine,
but neither its build quality nor its cleaning power have
been compromised. Its high-torque, 18 RPM turntable motor
is more than capable of withstanding the pressure of heavy
scrubbing during extended cleaning sessions, and its 35 second
cleaning cycle per side makes quick work of even the dirtiest
records.
