FMJ
P35
The FMJ P35 is the perfect partner to the A32 in a high quality
bi-amplified set-up, with suitable bi-wireable loudspeakers.
The P35 is also very flexible in that it can incorporate a
third channel power amplifier module. This can be specified
when ordered or can be upgraded by your dealer if you want
to add home cinema capability to your home audio system in
the future.
Its massive power supply can deliver effortless performance
with just about any model of loudspeaker available. Output
power is rated at 100 watts per channel into 8 Ohms, but the
amplifier can deliver an astonishing peak current of more
than 20 amps if required. Sophisticated protection circuitry
has been developed to avoid any audio interference effects
when driven hard.
If your loudspeakers are bi-wireable, then bi-amping
is one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make to
your hi-fi system. Bi-amplification is simply using separate
amplifier channels for each speaker driver, so that the bass
and treble units are individually driven. The improvement
in definition is similar to the increased grip a four-wheel
drive vehicle gives over two wheels!
For maximum ease of operation the P35 power
amplifier has a wired remote control connection which allows
for a power on signal from the A32 Amplifier.

FMJ P7
The Arcam FMJ series P7 is a THX specified 7 channel power
amplifier which has been designed to deliver reference standard
amplification in high performance audio-video installations.
It will deliver equally breathtaking results from both music
and home cinema sources, to delight even the most discerning
customer. It is the perfect partner the new FMJ AV8 processor,
but will of course complement the performance of any other
high quality preamp processor on the market.
The P7 is a completely modular design, with
7 identical and fully isolated power amplifiers. These may
be daisy chained for bi-amping or tri-amping suitable loudspeakers.
Each amplifier module has its own bridge rectifiers and 20,000
microfarads of storage capacitance, fed from a total of 14
individual windings on the P7's two massive 1500VA toroidal
power transformers. This arrangement ensures near perfect
isolation between the channels for the avoidance of hum loops.
It also means that each channel can always deliver its full
rated continuous output power of 150 Watts into 8 ohms or
230 Watts into 4 ohms, irrespective of what the other channels
are doing. The advanced current feedback circuit topology
employed in the P7 is a development of that used in Arcam's
award-winning A85 and A32 amplifiers and has ultra low distortion
together with exceptional dynamic range and transient response.
Since the amplifier is capable of delivering
over 1.6 kilowatts of continuous undistorted audio power,
there were a number of engineering challenges that have had
to be overcome to ensure both short and long-term reliable
operation. Each channel uses four Sanken heavy duty bipolar
output transistors firmly bolted to a large custom designed
aluminium heatsink.
These heatsinks are thermally very efficient
so that, under normal conditions, the amplifier needs only
convection cooling and is thus completely silent in use. With
so much power on tap the P7 is equipped with a heavy duty
mains cable and socket, coupled to a microprocessor controlled
"softstart" sequencer which, to minimise mains inrush
currents, turns on the channels one by one. This system is
powered from its own small toroidal power transformer, permitting
the P7 to be remotely switched in and out of standby via a
12 volt trigger input. The microprocessor continuously monitors
the condition of each channel, including temperature, output
current and DC offset, to ensure correct operation or instant
shut-down under fault conditions.
It also controls a variable-speed cooling fan,
for those rare occasions when convection cooling is not enough.
Great attention has been paid to the aesthetic
and mechanical design of the P7 to ensure it will grace any
home installation.
It features a beautifully contoured front panel
and integral air intake slot, with 7 multicoloured LEDs to
show the operating status of each channel. The whole case
is made of heavy gauge aluminium, which helps the overall
sound quality due to its excellent thermal and non-magnetic
properties. Because it weighs over 30 kg, even the P7's feet
are made from machined aluminium, complete with easy slide
plastic inserts to help with installation.
The P7 represents a tour-de-force in amplifier
design. It has power and finesse aplenty and catapults Arcam
into a small and select group of world class producers.

P85 POWER AMPLIFIER
Designed to match the A85 integrated amplifier, the P85 is
a superb power amplifier in its own right. Its high current
design can deliver over 85 watts into 8 ohms and will drive
most speakers effortlessly. The power amplifier can be switched
on remotely through a mini-jack socket on the rear panel.
If you have an A85, you can also switch both amplifiers' speaker
outputs on and off together via the system remote.
There is space inside the
standard two channel power amplifier for a third channel module
for use in home cinema and multi channel audio systems. The
power supply already has the extra capacity built in for three
channel use in its standard two channel mode.
The P85 power amplifier uses the most advanced
circuit design to produce a specification that not only is
technically excellent, but delivers a sound quality that really
enhances the power and the glory of the world's favourite
music.

350A
The Belles 350A power amplifier is the perfect melding of
art and science; a combination that seldom finds itself so
beautifully balanced. It is one thing to engineer a product
to be be built and reliable. It is another to design a thing
to perform so beautifully that it stirs the soul. The Belles
350A power amplifier is one of those rare instances where
art and science combine to create a soul stirring marvel of
engineering.
The 350A utilizes a dual mono design topology.
This gives the amplifier better isolation between channels.
Soundstage imaging is improved, offering true soundstage width
and depth. Instrument placement and layering are more accurate.
Each channel shares a common 2000 VA toroidal transformer.
By using a larger sin-gle transformer, rather than 2 smaller
ones as in typical dual mono designs, stronger and cleaner
bass is maintained.
Each channel of the Belles 350A is an
all in one integrated assembly. The circuit components are
mounted directly to the heatsink, eliminating the need for
additional wiring that can produce inconsistencies from one
channel to the next. Whether you order a 2 or 6 channel unit,
performance is consistent throughout the amplifier.

150A
Performance. You know it when you
see it. A finely tuned Formula One race car taking the checkered
flag. An athelete taking a victory lap after setting a new
world and olympic record.
Performance. You know it when you hear it. The
Absolute Sound heard it when they declared the Belles 150
"One of the ten hottest buys in audio." The HiFi
Heretic heard it when they declared the Belles 150 "...a
surperb amplifier. It has an essential quickness and clarity
that make music more immediate, more alive."
David Belles, the designer of the original Belles
150, is not content to let the performance of that amplifier
remain a thing of the past. The Belles 150 is now reborn,
as the Belles 150A.
Forged to meet the same high performance
standards as the original, David Belles has designed the 150A
to exceed its predecessor in every conceivable categorysonics,
reliability, fit and finish, and cost.
150A Hot Rod
The Belles 150A Hot Rod version is a refined version
of the outstanding Belles 150A power amplifier. All the internal
connections of the 150A are specially treated, as well as
many other internal enhancements are added to convert the
unit into the Hot Rod configuration.

MF2250
| MF2500 | MF 5600
For more than twenty years, conrad-johnson has sustained a
reputation for producing audio components that are able to
convey the emotional content of musical experience. Continuing
in this tradition, we are proud to offer this new series of
solid-state amplifiers that takes one more step toward creating
a believable illusion of live music when playing back recordings.
The MF2250 and MF2500 offer audiophiles a choice of power
levels in stereo amplifiers, while the five-channel MF5600
is designed to satisfy the needs of home theater users who
demand musical accuracy for their surround sound listening.

MV60
For nearly thirty years, conrad-johnson has helped
define the concept of high end audio through its relentless
pursuit of excellence, its use of only the finest available
component parts, and its single-minded dedication to building
the best high-fidelity products available. Less frequently
acknowledged, however, is conrad-johnson's dedication to the
"forgotten" audiophile - the dedicated music-lover
who requires musically satisfying performance but whose budget
does not aspire to the loftiest of current offerings. For
as long as the company has been producing its world-renowned
Premier series of audio instruments, it has also been adapting
the technologies and construction techniques responsible for
those products and applying them to a more affordable, but
equally discriminating, line of components.
The MV60 is the latest link in that chain and
it personifies the same compulsive attention to even the smallest
detail that differentiate the true audio originals from less
serious designs. The MV60 is a 55 watt per channel stereo
vacuum-tube power amplifier that achieves its true-to-life
sound through a combination of canny engineering and daring
innovation.
Consistent with conrad-johnson's design
philosophy that circuits should be kept as simple as possible,
the MV60 works its magic with just eight vacuum tubes. A composite
triode input stage is direct coupled to a cathode-coupled
phase inverter. The two sections of the phase inverter drive
the output stage, which is comprised of a pair of EL34s operated
in an ultralinear configuration, producing 55 watts per channel.
Limited negative feedback is applied to the circuit to reduce
distortion and provide a sufficiently high damping factor
to control most real-world speaker systems. Discrete dc power
supply regulators are provided for the input and inverter
stages, in order to isolate each stage from the output signal.

Premier 140
The Premier series of conrad-johnson products are precision
music reproduction instruments designed to meet the needs
of audio industry professionals and other audiophiles who
require near perfection from their reference systems. The
latest in the highly regarded Premier series of vacuum-tube
power amplifiers, the Premier 140 is the proverbial iron hand
in a velvet glove - capturing delicate textures and subtle
nuances while demonstrating muscular power, authority and
control.
The Premier 140 audio circuit consists of three stages. The
input signal is amplified by a single-ended triode amplifier
designed for wide band-width. The signal is then direct coupled
to a cathode coupled phase-inverter. This high current, triode
phase-inverter stage provides a balanced, low impedance drive
to the output stage. Output power is developed by two pairs
of 6550s per channel, chosen for their excellent sonic character,
high power, and reliability. The output tubes are operated
in ultralinear configuration which offers a desirable combination
of high power and low distortion. Massive output transformers
with intricately interleaved windings afford extended bandpass
and high phase linearity. A small amount (about 12 dB) of
loop negative feedback reduces distortion and achieves a sufficiently
high damping factor to control reactive loudspeaker systems.
Power supply design is every bit as critical
to the performance of an audio component as the audio circuit
itself. In the Premier 140, separate, low impedance, discrete
dc power supply regulators are provided for the input and
phase-inverter stages, preventing the output stage from modulating
these stages through the power supply The main power supply
reservoir uses a bank of massive custom polypropylene capacitors.
No electrolytic capacitors are used in any of these power
supplies.
The Premier amplifiers require no complicated
adjustments or specialized equipment to maintain. To assure
continued peak performance, the owner need only make a simple
bias adjustment when new tubes are installed. Built in LED
bias indicators allow the user to make this adjust-ment using
only the supplied screwdriver.
At conrad-johnson we are keenly aware
that component parts contribute importantly to the sonic performance
of any circuit design. The Premier 140 amplifier maintains
the exacting quality standards for which conrad-johnson is
internationally known. Resistors are precision tin-oxide deposited
on glass and bulk metal foil. All audio-circuit capacitors
are polystyrene, while the power supplies use large value
polypropylene in parallel with polystyrene capacitors. There
are no electrolytic capacitors in the audio circuits or in
the related power supplies. Proprietary wide-bandwidth output
transformers contribute to excellent high frequency performance.
Even the machined gold plated OFC connectors and the internal
wiring have been carefully selected for optimal sonic performance.
Attention to details of this kind enable us to extract the
full potential from our circuit designs and ensure that our
products will perform to this potential for years to come.
Rega [back
to top]

Maia 3
The Maia 3 is an 85 watt per channel high performance audio
power amplifier housed in the Rega custom built extruded aluminium
case. The amplifier has a fully protected output stage with
DC and electronic thermal protection, and a power monitor
for both transformers. High quality Evox capacitors have been
used in the signal path throughout.
The Maia 3 uses the Rega "common base driver
stage" circuit design. Rega used circuit modelling and
listening tests to design this amplifier resulting in superb
reliability and exceptional sound quality. Sanken 200w output
transistors are used in a high current output stage and will
drive the most awkward of speaker systems.
The power supply uses two generously rated toroidal
transformers with 28,200mF of parallel connected smoothing
capacitors, which will provide enough current to drive the
hardest of loads.

Exon 3
The Exon 3 is a high performance symmetrical circuit power
amplifier housed in the new Rega built extruded aluminium
case with heat sink. Rega has improved on the original Exon
power amplifier but still kept the same level of sonic performance
and synergy as the original.
The Exon 3 Amplifier has a fully protected output
stage with DC and electronic thermal protection and supply
monitor for both transformers. High performance Evox polypropylene
capacitors have been used in the signal path.
The power Amplifier uses a fully symmetrical
circuit topology throughout, with a low distortion high linearity
and bandwidth common base voltage amplifier driver stage.
This type of circuit topology will provide the necessary voltage
swing, to enable the Exon to drive the speaker system with
the minimum of distortion. Four sanken 200 watt output transistors
are used in a "triple" high current output stage,
thus enabling the Exon to drive the most awkward of speaker
systems. Circuit modelling and listening tests have been used
to give the highest level of sonic performance and reliability.
The power supply uses two generously rated toroidal
transformers with high-grade core material, combined with
37,600mF of parallel connected smoothing capacitors, providing
more than enough current to drive the hardest of loads. All
input and driver stages are fed from a fully regulated supply
providing a stabilised voltage, ensuring the highest level
of sonic purity.
